Con il suo fondo sabbioso e compatto, il tracciato lettone è uno dei più particolari dell’intera stagione.
Ben Watson (Beta RX450) ha iniziato il fine settimana di gara segnando il diciassettesimo tempo nelle cronometrate. Su una delle sue piste preferite, il pilota inglese ha messo a segno un’ottima qualifica chiusa al nono posto. Il buon piazzamento ha permesso a Ben di schierarsi in una buona posizione per le manche della domenica. Nella prima, è scattato a ridosso della top five e grazie a un ottimo passo ha tagliato il traguardo ottavo. Nella seconda, la partenza è stata meno fortunata ma, ancora una volta, il nostro pilota non si è risparmiato andando a chiudere decimo. Ottavo di giornata, il pilota ha ottenuto il migliore piazzamento assoluto stagionale. Risultato che gli permette di iniziare al meglio la seconda parte di campionato.
Ventiseiesimo nelle cronometrate, Tom Koch (Beta RX450) si è difeso al meglio in qualifica con la ventiduesima posizione. Più sfortunata la prima manche di gara, dove il pilota è stato costretto a chiudere in anticipo. Nella seconda ha finito ventiseiesimo dopo una caduta nei primi giri.
Ben Watson:
“In Lettonia ho vissuto un buon fine settimana. Nelle prove il feeling non era buono, era da tempo che non correvamo sulla sabbia e ci ho messo un po’ ad abituarmi. In qualifica sono stato molto veloce nei primi giri e ho chiuso al nono posto. In gara 1 sono partito bene e nei primi venti minuti ho avuto un ottimo ritmo. Ho lottato a lungo in sesta posizione ma gli ultimi dieci minuti sono stati particolarmente impegnativi, era da tempo che non mi misuravo con piloti così veloci ed ho chiuso ottavo. Nella seconda ho rimontato parecchie posizioni, le sensazioni erano buone e ho tagliato il traguardo al decimo posto. Nell’assoluta ho chiuso ottavo, il mio miglior piazzamento dell’anno. Continuiamo a lavorare in questa direzione.”
Tom Koch:
“Altro weekend difficile. In questi due giorni ho faticato molto ad adattarmi al terreno bagnato e impegnativo della pista di Kegums. Sabato non sono proprio riuscito a trovare il ritmo, mentre domenica le condizioni erano pessime, la pista era bagnata e segnata da profondi canali, e ho faticato molto. In gara uno ho dovuto ritirarmi quasi subito per un problema. Nella seconda sono partito bene e nel primo giro ho recuperato alcune posizioni, poi ho avuto un contatto e sono caduto. Sono molto deluso ma non posso fare altro che impegnarmi al massimo per fare meglio nelle prossime gare. Durante la pausa lavorerò duramente per riuscire a ottenere dei buoni risultati.”
Dopo tre weekend impegnativi MRT Racing Team Beta Factory e i suoi piloti avranno la possibilità di ricaricare le batterie in vista del Gran Premio di Inghilterra, dodicesimo appuntamento stagionale del Campionato Mondiale Motocross FIM 2025, che sarà disputato tra due settimane sullo scenografico e spettacolare circuito di Matterley Basin.

Kegums’ Zelta Zirgs track hosted the Grand Prix of Latvia, the eleventh round of the FIM Motocross World Championship 2025 and the third consecutive race in the last three weeks. With its sandy and compact surface, the Latvian track is one of the most unique of the entire season.
Ben Watson (Beta RX450) started the race weekend by setting the seventeenth fastest time in the time trials. On one of his favourite tracks, the British rider put in an excellent qualifying performance and finished in ninth place. The good placing allowed Ben to line up in a good position for Sunday’s heats. In the first one, he started close to the top five and thanks to a good pace he crossed the finish line eighth. In the second heat, the start was less fortunate but, once again, our rider did not spare himself, finishing tenth. Eighth on the day, Ben achieved his best overall placing of the season. A result that allows him to start the second part of the championship in the best possible way.
Twenty-sixth in the time trials, Tom Koch (Beta RX450) defended himself at his best in qualifying with a twenty-second position. More unfortunate was the first heat of the race, where the rider was forced to close early. In the second he finished twenty-sixth after a crash in the first laps.
Ben Watson:‘I had a good weekend in Latvia. In practice the feeling was not good, it had been a while since we raced in the sand, and it took me a while to get used to it. In qualifying I was very fast in the first laps and finished ninth. In race one I started well and had a very good pace in the first twenty minutes. I fought for a long time in sixth position, but the last ten minutes were particularly challenging, it had been a long time since I had measured myself against such fast drivers and I finished eighth. In the second race I made up a lot of positions, the feeling was good, and I crossed the finish line in tenth place. Overall, I finished eighth, my best placing of the year. We continue to work in this direction.’
Tom Koch: ‘Another difficult weekend. Over these two days I struggled a lot to adapt to the wet and challenging ground of the Kegums track. On Saturday I just couldn’t find my rhythm, while on Sunday the conditions were very bad, the track was wet and marked by deep canals, and I struggled a lot. In race one I had to withdraw almost immediately because of a problem. In the second race I started well and in the first lap I made up some positions, then I had a contact and crashed. I’m very disappointed but I can only do my best to do better in the next races. During the break I will work hard to achieve good results.’
After three busy weekends MRT Racing Team Beta Factory and its riders will have the chance to recharge their batteries ahead of the British Grand Prix, the twelfth round of the FIM 2025 Motocross World Championship season, which will be run in a fortnight at the scenic and spectacular Matterley Basin circuit.
